Ours approached the brink of commercial success with their 2001 album Distorted Lullabies. Their sweeping Radiohead/Buckley-esque sound usually combines a balance of clean and distorted guitars with singer Jimmy Gnecco’s distinct voice. He has the kind of voice that impresses you every time with its operatic range, power and accuracy.
The song Sometimes (below) made it to mainstream radio upon its release in 2001, as did a single called “Leaves” off the band’s second album, which met much less success. This talented band has been in a publicity slump, playing small shows for years.
Perhaps their upcoming third release, produced by Rick Rubin, combined with the current network of blogs that know how to pick up and spread good music, will change this.
If you’re in New York, check them out tonight at Highline Ballroom. And, as a bonus, after the show, you can stop at Hiro Ballroom down the block to catch Mobius Band for free, with RSVP.
