Cut Copy - “Hearts On Fire” - Live at the Mercury Lounge, NYC
Cut Copy played Mercury Lounge last night, the final night of their tour. The band has a refreshingly straightforward style about sharing their electro-rock tracks, offering little in the way of theatrics. But lead vocalist, keyboardist and guitarist Dan Whitford is willing to offer his appreciation to the crowd and acknowledge the impending electro climaxes, giving the audience the green light to go nuts–and it works.

Opener Holy Ghost, whose set was supposed to precede Cut Copy’s, did not perform. Cut Copy came on at about 10:40 after opener El Guincho and a long break DJ set by Holy Ghost. There’s no word yet from Holy Ghost or Modular Records on what happened. (We were expecting a live Holy Ghost set based on the billing and didn’t know that it was them who DJed before Cut Copy. Although they’re on DFA, a helpful Modular rep informed us of this. Thanks!)
Cut Copy has a new round of touring that’s about to begin with an array of European festivals. The band will then embark on their own tour with Black Kids, coming back through New York on May 13 at Studio B and May 14 at Bowery Ballroom with Mobius Band and T&T (Tim Goldsworthy & Tim Sweeney). Their new album In Ghost Colours will be released April 8 in the US. You can hear all of it now at their Myspace page.

Update 3/19: Before the show, TixGirl did an interview with the band during which they discussed their SXSW experience and coming from Australia. She also got some video.
