One of the first releases from DANR Music, the new label spawned by the NYC-based DJs Are Not Rockstars collective, will come from a new production team and live act called Drlkt Freddie.
Drlkt Freddie (pronounced Derelict Freddie) is a project of two fellow New Yorkers, Van Scott (DJ/producer/songwriter) and Jad Cooper (DJ/producer/engineer).
The group’s first official release is a remix of “You’ve Changed,” a classic vocal anthem by Lauren Flax featuring Sia, out on March 24. Other upcoming work includes remixes of new tracks by Princess Superstar and Junior Sanchez, which are both coming out on DANR Music.
The first Drlkt Freddie work we can offer you is this remix of Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face” and two original tracks, “Airtight” and “Blood,” which are slated for a late Spring/early Summer release.

On another note, it just so happens that many DJs are looking more and more like rock stars, lately. We have a lot of tracks coming out like Flax feat. Sia; MSTRKRFT feat. Li’ Mo (and Ghostface and John Legend); N.A.S.A. featuring some big names. The DJ/producers are often in the limelight. Does this threaten the mission prescribed by the very DJs Are Not Rockstars name? We decided to ask Van of Drlkt Freddie.
And our suspicions were confirmed. “The DJs Are Not Rockstars collective doesn’t take itself way too seriously, hence the name,” he said. “We have fun doing what we love to do: making music and DJing without the pretension.”
Back to the music … here’s the original Lauren Flax and Sia track that the guys are remixing. In a time when everyone seems nostalgic for the 80s, it shows some 90s love.
