According to Billboard, Atlantic, after a five year absence, has decided to revive the Elektra imprint. Artists so far signed to the label include Justice, Little Boots and Cee Lo. Little Boots will release her EP through Elektra on June ninth. Cee Lo is expected to have a new album later his year or early next year while Justice is set to release their highly anticipated follow up early next year.
John Janick, founder of Fueled by Ramen (which is home to acts such as Paramore and Panic At the Disco), and Mike Caren will run the label.
As to the what the future of the label, Janick has this to say “we are planning on building an eclectic brand, we’re looking for artists with potential. We’re not an incubator label; we’re going to develop artists and get them to the next level”.
Sounds good to me. Hopefully they stick to this idea of promotion and getting as eclectic a roster as possible giving as much support to the artist as possible.
