Details of their sophomore record, Odd Blood, were just released as well as news of their Guggenheim show. Now, it seems as if the floodgate of all things Yeasayer has opened. Check out the first single “Ambling Alp” below. You can also download it for free over at AmblingAlp.com. Just send in your email and you’ll be all set. You can also purchase a limited edition set starting on November 3rd, which you can see above that comes with a T-shirt and vinyl and will include remixes by Memory Tapes among others.
This song has been around for awhile, getting heavy rotation on their tour dates. The studio version sounds even better. The vocals are vintage Yeasayer, while the backing seems a little more playful, a little more electronic. The rush and urgency, the almost claustrophobic nature of All Hour Cymbals in all its brilliance is lacking here but in a good way.
The multitude of influences that envelop their music is also present and it’s a great breezy glimpse into the band and their new venture. The worldly and the grounded have become assimilated and a casual jaunt soon spirals to a odd yet familiar place. Nice breakdowns and falsetto too!
