Colorful fashion, glamour and a mood to party were fiercely brought to the Hollywood Palladium Saturday night for the much anticipated Sister Scissors (“SS”) show. And of course, many of my West Hollywood boys were in attendance. The NY band spawning from the gay club scene invited us all into their fab world where nothing is held back.
Opening up and looking quite dapper in his smart suit, Casey Spooner (Fischerspooner) made it a solo affair.
You could feel the energy in the air as everyone was ready to dance. Jake Shears (lead vocals, leather-wearing, chest-baring, man-of-the-night), Babydaddy (founding member and keeping a low profile on bass), Ana Matronic (lead vocals, think Mad Men bad girl look, glamorous in a mouth-watering black dress, high heels and perfect hairdo), Del Marquis (lead guitar), and drummer Randy Real who replaced former drummer Paddy Boom took the stage and immediately went into the title of their recent album Nightwork .
The standing-room only crowd was treated to an extravagant show consisting of many tracks from Nightwork, as well as favorites I Don’t Feel Like Dancing , Laura, and Paul McCartney.
But it was the encore of cover Comfortably Numb, Invisible Light, and Filthy/Gorgeous that were complete with confetti and lazer beams.
Matronic made note of the night being 9/11 and how we are alive in this moment. Shears mentioned living in LA for a year and the men here are the best looking. Too bad they aren’t on my team.
SS is a complete show. I had just expected to kick back and listen after shooting the first 3 songs, but ended up dancing the entire night like a crazy fool with fellow photographers and complete strangers. If you want to have a good time, don’t miss them!
