Get ready to spend a lot of time in Brooklyn. The Northside Festival is happening again, taking over art galleries, movie theaters and music venues. The festival, now in its third year has grown quite a bit and the offerings this year are diverse as can be, with something for everyone.
Theophilus london – Why Even Try ft Sara Quinn
With that being said, with so many bands playing it can be overwhelming. I know I tend to panic seeing a massive list of names, trying to decide whether I should skim or study intently. When that happens, I step back and take a breath. Now calm and collected, I’m able to process that list and spit out some highlights for Thursday and Friday for your Northside-ing pleasure. Again, no need to stick to these suggestions. Wander around and keep your ears open.

Northside Day 1 – Thursday, June 16
Music Hall of Williamsburg
The Official Northside Festival Opening Party features Theophilus London playing the Music Hall of Williamsburg with some special guests to entice those on the fence. Tickets are sold out so if you have a badge, get there early!
St. Cecilia’s Church
Over at Kranky’s showcase, Bardford Cox is taking a moment away from Deerhunter to put on his one man act with Atlas Sound. Doors at 7pm.

Brooklyn Bowl
?uestlove is doing his usual DJ set over at Brooklyn Bowl, so if you missed your other chances to cut a rug with ?uestlove, now is your chance. Doors open at 10:30pm.
Northside Festival Day 2 – June 17
Beirut – East Harlem
Brooklyn Bowl
Great way to double-dip as there are two very good showcases to catch at Brooklyn Bowl. DOM hits the stage early for his headlining show. If you stick around, Idolator’s showcase features Oh Land, Rye Rye and Deluka. Doors at 6pm for DOM, doors at 10:30pm for Idolator’s showcase.
Knitting Factory
Kanine Records is throwing their usual fantastic showcase. Surfer Blood headlines the night and to add even more value to the night, the undercard is quite solid with Grooms and Eternal Summers playing as well. Doors at 7pm.
McCarren Park – The Steve Madden Stage
This is the big show of the festival for most anyone. If you don’t know Beirut headlines this one. You’ll have to get there early anyway but the wait will be worth it as Yellow Ostrich and Sharon Van Etten deliver some great music. Gates at 5pm.
Public Assembly
Sacred Bones Records and Stereogum are taking over Public Assembly offering a ton of music in both rooms. Wes Eisbold of Cold Cave djs late into the night and you can catch Prurient, Cult of Youth and the US debut of Denmark’s own Iceage. Doors at 8pm.
Frankie Rose And The Outs – Little Brown Haired Girls
Glasslands Gallery
PopGun’s showcase features some interesting acts with Frankie Rose and her own brand of retro-fuzzed out rock headlining the night with a some good supporting acts including Brilliant Colors. Doors at 8:30pm.
St. Cecilia’s Church
Wood‘s just released Sun and Shade and are celebrating at St. Cecilia’s. Join in on the fun, doors open at 7pm.
