After a long day at The Creators Project last weekend, I headed to Brooklyn Bowl to catch Fred Falke, Anoraak, and DJ sets from FIXED residents and founders, JDH and Dave P.
It was a late party, with Anoraak kicking things off around 12:30 a.m. The French synth-pop trio captivated the audience, especially animated frontman Frédéric Rivière who switched between guitars and synths. To be fair, the band goes well beyond pop, like this funky track:
Anoraak – Crazy Eyes
Anoraak was formerly a solo project of Frédéric’s, as part of the Valerie Collective of French musicians.

During a DJ set by JDH and Dave P that pumped up the crowd, fans up front caught a glympse of Mr. Falke and coaxed him forward. He greeted them and signed someone’s LP. Minutes later, he came back out, ready to play.
Armed with a laptop, some audio equipment, and a bass guitar, the French Mr. Falke began his DJ set, occasionally offering live bass on a track. It was all clearly worth it when we witnessed that live bass action over one of our favorite Falke remixes: “Dancing On My Own” by Robyn. The crowd went wild for many of his soulful French-housey selections.
It was a fun night, with many kids jumping around up front, jubilant, with arms and drinks (and sometimes full pitchers) raised high.
