The weekly “Vibrations” party, held on Thursday nights at New York’s Hudson Terrace, is the newest series from NYC nightlife event producer GBH. We recently caught electronic music legend Alan Braxe at the open-air rooftop space, on a night that also featured DJs Sean Glass and GBH mainstay Alex English.
That’s Alan Braxe on the decks, above. More photos below.
The top-notch lineup for Vibrations continues, each night offering free admission with RSVP until 12, and an open bar deal from 10 to 11:
I’m back, rested and finally fully clean from Camp Bisco 11. A truly awesome experience — probably the most fun I’ve ever had at a festival. So many great people, with excellent music throughout.
We arrived at the Upstate New York grounds mid-day Thursday (July 12) and checked in. Immediately we met some great people camping in the Media/Artist Guest lot. We quickly set up our home for the next three days and decided to check out the festival grounds. I really liked the setup. It was spread out in a way that didn’t create sound bleed, but also allowed you to have ample time to get from set to set. The staff/volunteers were very friendly and helpful. And everyone was just so nice, I’ve never had more people apologize for accidentally bumping into me at a festival.
Day 1 highlights: The M Machine — even though it was only one of the guys, the set was still high energy, especially for an early set time (during which the day’s heat seemed to creep up quickly). Afterward, I checked out Michetti, who I’ve never seen before. He is a dubstep producer and also one of the guitarists in the band Conspirator.
Next up, Star Eyes — a member of the world famous Trouble and Bass crew from Brooklyn. She had an awesome bass-heavy set, even grabbing the mic to show off her vocal chords. Unfortunately most of the festival missed out on her set but the 50 or so people that were in the tent were treated to one of the best sets at Bisco.
A friend of TheMusic.FM is running for City Council and one of his many on-point positions is the need to reform New York’s ridiculous cabaret laws which make dancing illegal in most establishments. To support Ben Kallos for City Council, TheMusic.FM is throwing a little happy hour party, featuring DJ Myron Nay as well as TheMusic.FM founder Mike Lewis on DJ duty. We found the perfect spot (Professor Thom’s 2nd floor Loft + outdoor patio at 2nd Ave, between 13th and 14th St., NYC). And your first drink is free. Say you saw it on TheMusic.FM and pay just $10 at the door.
Here are some of Myron Nay’s recent mixes. We think you’ll love his respect for classic disco, soul, and house as much as we do.
The Magician has cancelled the last four stops of his North American tour: 6/20 in D.C., 6/21 in Philly, 6/22 in Chicago, and 6/23 in New York.
After thanking fans for “the great times in LA, San Francisco, Toronto, Denver, Dallas and San Diego” in a message posted Tuesday on Facebook, he announced the cancellations. “I’m really sorry but I need to cancel the last shows ! I need to go back to Europe for an emergency.”
One of our favorite producers of the last couple of years, Plastic Plates, was set to open for the Magician at Saturday’s FIXED gig at Le Poisson Rouge. He has now been upgraded to an extended headlining set following FIXED founders and NYC-based DJs JDH and Dave P. Tickets are still available and we’ll be there snapping some photos for you and taking in the scene.
One of our favorite summer music festivals is surely Camp Bisco, which runs Thursday, July 12 through Saturday, July 14 in the Upstate New York town of Mariaville.
We told you back in March about the lineup which includes The Disco Biscuits, Bassnectar, Skrillex, Crystal Castles, Big Boi, Shpongle, A-Trak, Simian Mobile Disco, Dada Life and many more. We also told you about the improvements this year: Faster entry into the festival with an additional main gate, better audio in the dance tents, larger dance tents, and long-distance shuttles from New York, Philly, Albany, Buffalo, Boston and Burlington.
