It’s October 16, and in New York, that means the start of the 2012 CMJ Music Marathon. Perhaps the easiest thing you’ll do in the next four days will be picking up your badge. From there, there are endless possibilities to spend your day and night. So over the next four days, TheMusic.FM will help ease some of that burden. As the weather gets cooler and the fall season takes over the thing I look forward to most is CMJ. The New York institution that is the CMJ Music Marathon is a hectic whirlwind of showcases and bands to catch. That tradition continues as CMJ has just announced its initial lineup.

CMJ Music Marathon 2012 taking place between October 16-20, will feature plenty of familiar and unfamiliar names. Big names like The Walkmen, The Presets, The Mountain Goats, Kimbra, GZA and OFF! will be playing during CMJ but there are plenty of great acts to catch and perhaps a few great discoveries as well.

For the initial lineup I am also excited about Poolside, Com Cruise and King Tuff to name a few. The initial lineup of CMJ acts is below and more acts can be found here.

Jane’s Addiction continues to put on a theatrical experience as the last leg of the Theatre of Escapists tour stopped at Williamsburg Park. Perry Farrell, Dave Navarro, Chris Chaney and Stephen Perkins continue to put on a spectacle worthy of their legacy.

Derecho did not get fans at the House of Vans down. Despite the nightmare clouds sweeping in before The Everymen, whoever was in attendance to see The Everymen, Nicky Da B and King Khan and the Shrines were in for a wet treat thanks to the rain and sweat of the intense House of Vans show.
